Satellite data management in the Center for Environmental Remote Sensing, Chiba University (Munehisa Yamamoto / CEReS)
- Web page http://www.cr.chiba-u.jp/~4vl/
- Currently in Japanese. English version will be available soon.
- Virtual laboratory framework of 4 cooperating research centers
- AORI (former CCSR) U.Tokyo, HyARC Nagoya U., CAOS Tohoku U. and CEReS Chiba U.
- Storage ca. 300 TB, accessible from the Internet.
- Satellite data archives in the AMY (2007-2012)
- open data (anonymous FTP)
- Geostationary satellites (see below), NOAA AVHRR, Terra/Aqua MODIS
- research-base archive (standard products downloaded from official data centers)
- "A-Train": Cloudsat CPR; Aqua AIRS, AMSR-E; Calipso CALIOP
- TRMM
- QuikScat
- DMSP SSM/I
- multi-satellite merged products
- TRMM 3B42, Global IR (TRMM DAAC); GSMaP (JAXA)
- Geostationary satellite data
- Data release via anonymous ftp. (e.g. ftp://gms.cr.chiba-u.ac.jp/pub/GMS5-SVISSR/ )
- GMS/MTSAT since late 1997, GOES, FY2 freely available for research use
- Meteosat data: need special arrangement
- MTSAT and GOES processed in quasi-real-time.
- Geometrically corrected into longitude-latitude grids
- All channels
- Count numbers in 1 or 2 byte binary + Conversion table to albedo or blackbody temperature in ASCII
- Spatial domain: 60S - 60N; Resolution: 0.01 deg. for Vis, 0.04 deg. for IR
- Temporal resolution: mostly 1 hour, GOES 3 hour
- Data products are being renewed to Version 2.
- Radiation budget product estimated from MTSAT data is produced.
Q/A
- QuikSCAT surface wind is useful, but it is no longer functioning. Are there any data to replace it?
- Some scenes of GMS are missing.
- CEReS archives only full scan data.
- Possible to cover by other satellite?
