A study of regional modeling about diurnal variation of Meiyu precipitation (nocturnal heavy rains) over southeast China is reported.
The case of 11-16 June 1998 is simulated by JMA NHM at 10 km grid with GAME Reanalysis as boundary condition. The spatio-temporal structure of precipitation in the simulation is compared with observational data by rain gauges and TRMM 3B42. Nocturnal low level jets are important in build-up of CAPE (convective avaliable potential energy).
In AMY Reanalysis, following resolution is desirable to resolve MCSs (mesoscale convective systems), intense meso-beta systems, diurnally varying forcings. Time: 1-3 h, horizontal: 10-20 km, vertical: 25 hPa.
