Land Surface Model

MATSIRO

Minimal Advanced Treatments of Surface Interaction and RunOff (MATSIRO) [Takata et al., 2003] was developed at the Center for Climate System Research (CCSR), The University of Tokyo, and the National Institute for Environmental Studies (NIES) for representing land surface processes in Atmospheric General Circulation Model (AGCM) [Namaguti et al., 1997] which is the precedence of Model for Interdisciplinary Research on Climate (MIROC).

The main objective in its development was to represent all of the important water and energy circulation processes between land and atmosphere as fully and accurately as possible (i.e., advanced treatment) in relative time and spatial scales, while modeling them as simply as possible (i.e., minimal treatment) so as to allow the results to be easily interpreted.
